To get the most from
www.findonamap.com you require a Symbian 3rd series mobile phone
which can connect to a Bluetooth external GPS receiver. Click
here to determine whether
your mobile is compatible.
These instructions are split into 2 parts: how to operate the
mobile software and how to use the website.
Using the Mobile Software
Installation: Download and install foam.sisx onto your
mobile phone. If you encounter any problems during installation,
please see here.
Connecting to a GPS unit: Start 'Foam' and the main
screen will be displayed:

You now need to connect to a BT GPS
receiver. I use the Holux GPSlim 236 but any receiver which
outputs NMEA messages will be compatible. Select
Options->Bluetooth->Connect to GPS. The software will then
perform Bluetooth device discovery. Once device discovery is
complete, select the BT GPS receiver and press Select. Once the
GPS receiver has acquired a latitude and longitude fix then this
data will be displayed in the view:

Setting the Update Interval
Once a valid position has been
acquired from the BT unit, the software will regularly send the
positions to the website at intervals specified by the user. To
change the update interval, select Options->Settings.
Displaying the Serial Number
To display the serial number, select Options->Serial. This
number is important; it can be given to anybody who you want to
determine your location through the website.
Clearing the Positions Stored on the Server
Uploading positions is great, but occasionally you might
want to start afresh. To clear all the positions on the server,
select Options->Clear->Server. If there is no valid http
connection present, the device will ask the user to select the
desired internet access point.
Minimising the Application
The mobile software has been designed to run discreetly in
the background but still upload the current latitude and
longitude from the website at specified intervals. To minimise
the application simply press 'Hide' from the main window.
